Proximity Cards

Proximity cards, also known as prox cards or access control cards, are contactless smart cards used for secure access control. They work by using radio frequency identification (RFID) technology to communicate with a reader device when the card is within a certain range, typically up to 50 cm (20 inches) for passive cards. There are two main types of proximity cards: Passive Proximity Cards: These are powered by the radio frequency signals from the reader and have a limited range. They are commonly used for door access in office building. Active Proximity Cards: These have an internal battery, allowing for a greater range of up to 2 meters (6 feet). They are often used in applications where the card needs to be read from a distance, such as in vehicle access systems. Proximity cards are widely used in various settings, including businesses, schools, and government offices, to enhance security and streamline access control.
